THE IMPACT OF THE ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION (EFCC) IN CURBING CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA

The study examined the extent to which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has helped in curbing corruption in Nigeria. The research design was a survey design, the research was both qualitative and quantitative, 197 respondents from the target population were interviewed, primary and secondary method of data collection was adopted, and literature were sourced from Journals, conference papers, bulletins, Magazines, EFCC reports, etc. some high profile and ongoing corruption cases as well as convictions, cash recoveries, and asset forfeiture were highlighted. Results and literature showed that the EFCC has helped in curbing corruption to some extent but not appreciably. The study concluded that corruption is a very serious problem in Nigeria, requiring very urgent intervention. Expunging of the immunity clause from the constitution, Good governance, and change in value system amongst others were recommended as some of the ways of curbing corruption in Nigeria.
